The Dream
Dreamsweats is a line of unique, colorful sweatshirts designed for those who want to look – and feel – good. The company was created in 2010 as a way for founder Jill to use her love of color and creativity to come up with a line of fun, super-comfortable sweatshirts/clothing that anyone could wear. For Jill, the word "dream" has always held the promise of wonderful things to come, and Dreamsweats is her way of bringing that promise to life.
The Girl
Jill, Dreamsweats creator and chief designer, created the company in the midst of a life-altering event. In 2010, the single mother of three teenagers was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. Jill knew she needed to put the business on hold while she dedicated herself to treating her illness. After a couple of long hospital stays, several rounds of chemotherapy and a successful bone marrow transplant, Jill is cancer-free and focused once again on building Dreamsweats into the company that brings comfort, fashion – and smiles – to everyone who wears her designs.
The Reality
The dream for Dreamsweats encompasses more than its designs. These sweatshirts represent survival (and the growing number of survivors), the fight, and finding a cure for cancer. One of the most poerwful and far-reaching aspects of the company comes from giving back to all those who are battling – or who have battled – this deadly disease.
That’s why 20% of all profits will be donated to cancer hospitals and research centers
– including the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, the team that saved Jill's life. The money will be used to fund bone marrow transplants for those in need and will also help pave the way for research that will one day eradicate this disease which has already claimed far too many precious lives. Jill realizes that Dreamsweats – and the cause that they represent – is going to mean something different to everyone. For Jill, it was cancer. This is why the company’s giving back campaign will evolve beyond cancer and will include many other causes.
